The Honokaa Alumni Ohana is holding a public candlelight vigil tonight to remember Honokaa High School graduates who have died in recent tragic traffic accidents.

The vigil is being held in memory of Rocky P. Pactol, 18, Kauaheakeokaua Lactaoen, 19, and Brocky A. Rapozo, 31.

Pactol and Lactaoen died early Sunday after their car was struck by a man who was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Rapozo was trying to overtake a vehicle when his motorcycle clipped a car, lost control and struck a guardrail.

A roll call remembering and honoring all Honokaa High School Alumni who have lost their lives due to traffic accidents will also be part of the candlelight vigil.

“We have lost too many of our Honokaa High School family due to accidents on our highways, and we want our community to be vigilant about safety and be cognizant of how precious life is,” said Dominic Yagong, a councilman and Honokaa High alumnus. “We will be focusing the vigil on healing, caring, safety and loving one another.”

Organizers are asking the community to gather at the Honokaa High School football field beginning at 6:30 p.m., with candlelight ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. Kahu Danny Kaniela Akaka Jr. will preside over the vigil and alumni singers will honor those who have passed on. Family members and friends are asked to bring candles and pictures.
